Ilha Grande

Eine schreckliche Insel!!!! ;-)  ...mehr als hundert tropische Strände, einer schöner als der andere; blaue Lagunen zum Schwimmen und Schnorcheln; satt-grüner Atlantik Regenwald der die steilen Hänge bedeckt, viele Pfade zum Wandern;  ruhige, schön angelegte Unterkünfte und einige exzellente Restaurants in Vila do Abraao (dem Hauptort) und last but not least der Stand von Madame Caipirinha, an dem wir fast jeden Abend unseren "Absacker" tranken.

Die Insel liegt nur 1 1/2 Std. südlich von Rio de Janeiro und soviel Schönheit zieht gerade am Wochenende viele Cariocas an. Man erreicht sie mir der Fähre von Angra do Reis oder Mangaritiba. Mehr Infos gibt's unter www.ilhagrande.com.br

It's a horrible island!!! ;-)  .... more than 100 tropical beaches, one more beautiful than the other; blue lagoons for swimming and snorkeling; lush Atlantic rainforest covering the steep hills, offering many treks for hiking; only three settlements; quiet pousadas to stay in, some excellent restaurants in Vila do Abraao (the main village) and last but not least the stall of Madame Caipirinha, where we ended up almost every night.

The island is only 1 1/2 hours south of Rio de Janeiro and so a favourite hang-out for Cariocas on the weekend. It's accessible by ferry from Mangaritiba or Angra dos Reis.

Blue Lagoon,

..mit diesen Booten kann man sehr touristische Tagestouren zu weiter entfernten Stränden und Buchten unternehmen, da das Wandern im heiß-tropischen Klima nicht jedermanns Sache ist.

...with these boats you can do a very touristic day-trip to some beaches and lagoons further away from Abraao, because hiking in the hot and humid climate isn't everybodys favourite.

Die ganze Versorgung der Insel wird mit diesen kleinen Booten erledigt und "arbeitsmarktfreundlich" ohne Maschineneinsatz be- und entladen. All the stuff needed on the island is brought by these little vessels. Un-/Loading is done by hand because there are almost no cars on the island.
